Malaysian School Holidays and IGCSE Maths Revision
Malaysian international schools broadly follow the British academic year, with breaks in December, February (Chinese New Year for some), April, and a mid-term break in June or July. Each holiday serves a different purpose in the IGCSE preparation journey.
March/April Holiday (Year 10, 12–14 Months Before Exam)
Purpose: Close Year 10 topic gaps identified in school tests.
What to do:
- Complete a diagnostic past paper to identify the weakest 3 topics
- Spend 2–3 days per weak topic on targeted drilling
- Do not attempt full papers — this is too early for exam conditions practice
Tuition focus: 2–3 intensive sessions with Teacher Rig on identified Year 10 weak topics.
June/July Holiday (Year 10/11 boundary, 11–12 Months Before Exam)
Purpose: Consolidate Year 10 and begin Year 11 Extended-only topics.
What to do:
- Review Year 10 content in summary (notes review, not deep drilling)
- Begin one or two Year 11 Extension topics (vectors, functions) as a head start
- Complete 1 timed past paper to establish a starting benchmark
Tuition focus: 1 week of intensive sessions, 3–4 sessions total.
December Holiday (Year 11, 5–6 Months Before Exam)
Purpose: The most important revision break. See the December break plan.
What to do:
- Full diagnostic past paper
- Target top 3 weak topics with intensive drilling
- Complete one further full paper by end of break to measure progress
Tuition focus: 4–6 sessions during the 3-week break — 2 sessions per week of targeted topic work.
Chinese New Year Break (3–4 Months Before Exam)
Purpose: Maintain momentum and address the most recent mock feedback.
What to do:
- 5 focused days of revision (not the full 2 weeks)
- See CNY revision guide
April Holiday (1–2 Months Before Exam)
Purpose: Final intensive consolidation. See the April holiday plan.
What to do:
- Full past papers only (no new topics)
- Error log review
- Exam logistics confirmation
