IGCSE Maths April Holiday Plan: Final Preparation Before the Exam

By Teacher Rig ·

The April Break: Your Last Major Window

For Malaysian students sitting IGCSE maths in May/June, the April school break is the final extended revision window before the real exam. Used well, it can consolidate months of preparation and move a B student to A territory, or ensure a C student arrives at the exam with confidence.

Most Malaysian international schools have a 1–2 week April break, typically in mid-April.

What Your April Revision Should Look Like

At this stage — 3–5 weeks from the exam — the approach is:

  1. No new content. Every topic should already be known. If you encounter an unfamiliar concept in April, flag it to Teacher Rig and spend no more than one session on it. This is not the time for discovery.
  2. Past papers and mark scheme review. The core activity for this break is completing past papers end-to-end under timed conditions and reviewing every mark lost.
  3. Error log review. Your error log from January–March is the most targeted revision material available. Review it systematically.

Day-by-Day April Plan

Day 1: Review your error log. List your top 5 recurring errors or weak topics.

Day 2: Drill weak topic 1 (15–20 past paper questions, timed).

Day 3: Drill weak topic 2 (same format).

Day 4: Full timed Paper 2 (90 min, no calculator). Mark it. Update error log.

Day 5: Rest. Seriously — rest. One full day off from maths produces better performance on Day 6 than pushing through fatigue.

Day 6: Full timed Paper 4 (150 min, calculator). Mark it.

Day 7: Review Paper 4 errors thoroughly. Identify which question type cost the most marks.

Day 8 onwards: Repeat the cycle: weak topic drill → full paper → review → rest day.
