From C to A: Wei Jie's IGCSE Maths Journey at Sunway International School

Wei Jie transferred to Sunway International from a Chinese independent school at the start of Year 10 with a strong arithmetic foundation but very limited exposure to Cambridge-style algebraic problem-solving. His first internal assessment at Sunway was a C, largely because the question format — written multi-step problems requiring English explanations of method — was unfamiliar. Teacher Rig worked with Wei Jie over twelve months to bridge the gap, starting with making his algebraic working Cambridge-compatible and building through the full Extended syllabus. His Chinese maths background meant he was strong on number and calculation; the work focused on algebraic manipulation, functions, and the written answer style Cambridge rewards. By Year 11 Term 2, Wei Jie was consistently scoring A on past papers. He achieved A in the Cambridge examination.
