From B to A*: Thomas's IGCSE Maths Journey at Sri KDU International School

Sri KDU International School · Kota Damansara · Extended tier · 10 months

Sri KDU is known for its demanding IGCSE programme, and Thomas was a consistent B student in Year 10 who wanted more. He came to Teacher Rig at the start of Year 11, identifying three areas where he consistently lost marks: vectors in Paper 4, the harder function questions, and the final algebraic proof questions. Over ten months these became his strongest areas. Teacher Rig's approach with Thomas was to treat each topic as a system of skills — identifying which specific steps were failing and drilling those specifically, rather than repeating full questions. This precision approach is particularly effective for students moving from A to A*, where the gap is narrow and specific. Thomas's past paper scores moved from 74% to 89% and he achieved A* in the Cambridge examination.

"Teacher Rig identified exactly what Thomas was getting wrong in each topic. The precision of the approach was what made the difference — not just doing more practice but doing the right practice."

Questions About This Journey

What is the most efficient approach for pushing from A to A* in IGCSE Maths?

Precise error analysis across past papers to identify specific failure points, then targeted drill on exactly those micro-skills. Generic practice at this level adds fewer marks than precision work on identified weaknesses.
