Private Candidate Success: Rahman's IGCSE Maths B Grade in Seremban
Private Candidate · Seremban · Extended tier · 18 months full syllabus preparation
Rahman was homeschooled and preparing as a private candidate for Cambridge IGCSE Maths — a significant undertaking without a school's scheme of work or classroom teaching. He came to Teacher Rig 18 months before the May/June examination with a strong number foundation from home tuition but no structured exposure to the Extended syllabus topics. We built his preparation from the ground up, following a systematic topic sequence that covered all 92 subtopics across the two years. Sessions were weekly, with additional independent practice set each week. By the end of Year 1 of preparation, Rahman was ready for Core tier. We extended him to the full Extended syllabus in the second year, and he sat as a private candidate through a registered Cambridge centre in Seremban. His B grade was a tremendous achievement for a student who learned the entire IGCSE Extended syllabus outside of a formal school environment.
"We were nervous about the private candidate route — nobody had done it in our family before. Teacher Rig made the whole process straightforward and the result exceeded our expectations."
