From B to A*: Leon's IGCSE Maths Journey at UCSI International Cheras

Leon came to Teacher Rig at the start of Year 11 with a solid B-grade performance at UCSI Cheras. His school performance was consistent but he was losing marks systematically on three topics: differentiation and turning points, the harder trigonometry questions in Paper 4, and the final algebraic reasoning questions that require proof. These are precisely the topics that separate B from A* in Cambridge Extended. Over ten months we focused heavily on these areas while maintaining strong performance everywhere else through past paper review. Leon's turning point was developing confidence with differentiation — once he understood the underlying concept of gradient as a rate of change, the exam questions became much more manageable. He went into the May/June examination consistently hitting A* on past papers and achieved it in the real examination.
