From A to A*: Jessica's IGCSE Maths Journey at BSKL

British International School KL · Seri Kembangan · Extended tier · 7 months

Jessica was a strong performer at BSKL and came to Teacher Rig seven months before her examination with one specific goal: A*. She was consistently achieving A on her school assessments and BSKL internal mocks but knew she needed to improve on the final sections of Paper 4 — the harder calculus, vector, and algebraic proof questions that appear in question 8, 9, and 10. These questions separate the majority of A-grade students from the small cohort who achieve A*. Over seven months we drilled these specific question types intensively while keeping her strong performance in the earlier questions consistent through weekly past paper practice. Jessica's final Cambridge result was A*, achieved with a clear margin.

"BSKL sets very high standards and Jessica needed A* for her first-choice UK university. Teacher Rig delivered exactly the specialist support needed for those final Paper 4 marks."

Questions About This Journey

What typically separates A from A* students in IGCSE Extended Maths?

Performance on the hardest Paper 4 questions — typically the last 2-3 questions involving differentiation turning points, proof-based algebra, 3D vectors, or circle theorem combinations. A* students score close to full marks on these; A students typically score 40-60% of available marks in these sections.
