From B to A*: Hannah's IGCSE Maths Journey at Nexus International School

Nexus International School · Putrajaya · Extended tier · 9 months

Nexus International's inquiry-based learning approach develops deep conceptual understanding, and Hannah was an excellent example — she genuinely understood the mathematics but her Cambridge examination technique needed significant development. The transition from Nexus's portfolio-style internal assessment to the structured answer format that Cambridge Paper 4 demands was the challenge. She came to Teacher Rig in September of Year 11, scoring B on practice papers. Nine months of focused work on Cambridge-specific examination skills — how to structure multi-step answers, when to use equations versus diagrams, how to allocate time across Paper 4's questions — transformed her examination performance. Her content knowledge was already A* level; the sessions built the examination craft to match. She achieved A* in May/June.

"Nexus taught Hannah to think mathematically. Teacher Rig taught her to perform mathematically under Cambridge exam conditions. Both were necessary for the A*."

Questions About This Journey

Is IGCSE Maths preparation different for Nexus students?

Nexus students often arrive with strong conceptual understanding but less Cambridge-specific examination practice than students at more traditionally structured schools. The focus with Nexus students is usually on Cambridge examination technique and past paper familiarity rather than content gaps.
