IGCSE Maths Resit Success: Adam's C to A Journey in Kota Kinabalu
Jesselton International School · Kota Kinabalu · Extended tier · 5 months intensive resit preparation
Adam achieved a C in his first IGCSE Maths sitting in May/June and was determined to improve before his A-Level college applications. Living in Kota Kinabalu meant specialist Cambridge IGCSE tutoring was not easily available locally — Teacher Rig's fully online model was the solution. We worked intensively for five months before the October/November resit, focusing on the topics where Adam had lost the most marks in his first sitting: algebraic functions, the harder trigonometry questions, and Paper 4 time management. Adam was a motivated student who did everything asked of him between sessions. He went into the October/November examination well-prepared and achieved an A — a two-grade improvement that changed his A-Level college options entirely.
"Living in KK, we were worried about finding specialist help. The online sessions with Teacher Rig worked perfectly — same quality as KL, no travel needed."
Questions About This Journey
Is an October/November resit realistic for a significant grade improvement?
With five months of focused preparation and a motivated student, a two-grade improvement is achievable. The key is starting immediately after results come out in August and following a structured preparation plan.
