Students often spread revision evenly across every topic, but topics differ a lot in both difficulty and how much they’re worth in the exam. The Hardest Topics (and Highest Stakes)
A few topics consistently cause the most trouble while also carrying serious exam weight:
- Algebra and graphs — the backbone of the paper, and the source of more lost marks than any other area, especially harder manipulation and functions.
- Trigonometry — sine/cosine rules, bearings, and 3D problems trip up even strong students.
- Vectors and transformations — the reasoning style is unfamiliar and under-practised.
These deserve the largest share of revision time.
The Middle Ground
Mensuration, probability (especially tree and conditional problems), and coordinate geometry are moderately demanding and appear reliably. Worth solid attention, but less of a grade risk than the top group.
The More Accessible Topics
Number, basic statistics, and straightforward ratio and percentage work tend to be more accessible. They still appear every series, so they’re “guaranteed marks” to lock down — but they rarely need heavy revision once secure.
How to Use This
Weight your time toward high-difficulty, high-weight topics; keep the accessible ones sharp with lighter maintenance. Revising what you already find easy feels productive but moves the grade least.
