When You Can Resit
Cambridge 0580 is examined in two main series each year: May/June and October/November. That gives most students a realistic next opportunity within months rather than having to wait a full year.
How to Register
If your child is still at a school that enters candidates, the school usually handles registration. If they’ve left, or are studying independently, they register as a private candidate through an approved exam centre (many international schools and the British Council accept them). Registration deadlines fall well before the exam, so sort this out early.
Choose the Right Tier
A resit is also a chance to reconsider Core vs Extended. Most students aiming for a competitive grade should sit Extended, but the decision should match the target grade and the student’s foundations honestly.
Resit Smart, Not Just Hard
The biggest resit mistake is simply “revising everything again.” A resit is won by diagnosing exactly where the marks were lost last time — specific topics and recurring technique errors — and targeting those. Get hold of the previous result breakdown or a recent mock and build the plan around its weak points.
A Grade Jump Is Realistic
With an honest diagnosis and a focused few months, lifting the grade in a single series is very achievable.
