IGCSE Maths October/November 2026: Preparation Guide

By Teacher Rig ·

Preparing for IGCSE Maths October/November 2026

The October/November session typically has papers in late October and early November. Malaysian students register through their school or an authorised exam centre, with registration deadlines usually in July.

This guide serves two groups: students sitting IGCSE for the first time in the Oct/Nov session, and students resitting after the May/June session.

For First-Time Oct/Nov Students

Some Malaysian international schools run October/November as their standard exam session (rather than May/June). This is less common than May/June but perfectly valid. The 0580 papers are the same format and difficulty in both sessions.

Timeline from March:

March–May: Topic coverage — complete any remaining syllabus content, focusing on Extended-only topics if applicable.

June–August: Transition to past paper practice — 2 full papers per week from June, increasing to 3 in August. Use the May/June and Oct/Nov papers from 2021–2024.

September: Intensive past paper consolidation. Every paper reviewed thoroughly. Error log reviewed weekly.

October (final 2–3 weeks): Consolidation only. Light review, sleep normalised, exam logistics confirmed.

For Resit Students (After May/June 2026)

Students resitting after an underperforming May/June 2026 have approximately 5 months from result release (mid-August) to the exam (late October). This is a tight but workable window if used efficiently.

The resit advantage: You already know exactly which topics cost you marks. The May/June mark scheme (released in August) shows you precisely where you lost marks. This makes targeted revision far more efficient than preparing from scratch.

Resit preparation priorities:

  1. Obtain your script (via EUR request if needed) or use the mark scheme to reconstruct where marks were lost
  2. Identify 3–5 topic areas with the most mark loss
  3. Spend August–September drilling those specific topics
  4. Complete full past papers from October under exam conditions

Frequency needed: 2 sessions per week with Teacher Rig, focused on the identified weak topics, is sufficient for a one-grade improvement in this window.

Registration Reminder

Register for the Oct/Nov session as early as possible — places at authorised exam centres in Malaysia are limited. Contact your school’s exams officer or the nearest Cambridge-authorised centre by July at the latest.
