Preparing for IGCSE Maths May/June 2026

The May/June 2026 IGCSE maths papers typically fall in the last two weeks of May. That means most Malaysian Year 11 students have approximately 14–16 weeks from now.

Here is a realistic month-by-month plan.

February 2026: Diagnostic and Gap Identification

Priority: Know exactly where you are.

  • Complete a full Cambridge past paper (2024 or 2023 session) under timed conditions
  • Mark it using the official Cambridge mark scheme
  • List every question where you lost more than half the available marks
  • Categorise losses: was it a concept gap, an arithmetic error, or a presentation issue?

By the end of February, you should know your top 5 weakest topics by name.

If you are not yet in tuition: February is the last comfortable window to start. Book a free trial with Teacher Rig now.

March 2026: Targeted Topic Work

Priority: Fill the gaps identified in February.

  • Focus your independent study on the 3–5 weakest topics
  • Complete 15–20 past paper questions per weak topic (not random questions — topic-specific)
  • Attend tuition sessions focused on the same weak topics

Do not attempt another full paper until March is complete. Targeted drilling first, then reassessment.

April 2026: Full Paper Practice

Priority: Build exam stamina and timing.

  • Complete 2 full past papers per week under strict timed conditions
  • Paper 2 (70 marks): 1 hour 30 minutes. Paper 4 (130 marks): 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Review every paper thoroughly — every mark lost must be understood
  • Track your raw score per paper; aim for consistent improvement

In April, Teacher Rig sessions shift from concept teaching to exam technique and paper review.

May 2026: Final Consolidation

Priority: Confidence and consistency, not new content.

  • Reduce to 1 past paper per week in the final 2 weeks
  • Review your error log from the previous 2 months — address recurring patterns
  • Practise the formula sheet: know what Cambridge provides vs what you must memorise
  • Sleep 7–8 hours every night — memory consolidation happens during sleep

Final week: No new past papers. Light review of your strongest topics to build confidence. Confirm exam time, location, and equipment (pencil, ruler, calculator, compass).

Key Topics for May/June 2026

Based on Cambridge’s recent examiner reports, topics that consistently carry high marks on Paper 4:

  • Trigonometry (sine rule, cosine rule, bearings, 3D)
  • Algebra and functions (simultaneous equations, quadratics, function composition)
  • Probability (tree diagrams, combined events, without replacement)
  • Vectors (path questions, proof)
  • Circle theorems (with full reasons required)
