Overview

Transformations test spatial reasoning skills. Students must be able to perform and describe all four types of transformations accurately, including combined transformations for Extended students.

• Enlargement (centre, scale factor)

• Fractional and negative scale factors
• Combined transformations
• Describing single transformations equivalent to two combined

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Incomplete descriptions (forgetting centre of rotation or mirror line equation)
• Confusing clockwise and anticlockwise rotations
• Wrong image position with negative enlargement
• Not using column vector notation for translations
